Wilminette
Available for stays of 28 days or longer, the Wilminette offers compact comfort in the heart of St. Louis' fabulous Central West End. The Wilminette sleeps up to two people. Enjoy a top-quality Queen-sized bed, dedicated high-speed internet, and kitchen with all the basics for meal preparation. Take a shower or soak in the clawfoot tub. The Wilminette has a smart TV with an antenna for local stations.
Before your arrival, the Wilminette will be stocked with welcome teas and treats, freshly roasted coffee, and light breakfast foods to start your stay. You will find a range of cleaning supplies and complimentary toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, Q-Tips, etc.). To keep rates low, we do not replenish these items during your stay.
The Wilminette is located on the first floor and accessible by only climbing half a flight of stairs. There is no elevator. Pets are not allowed in the Wilminette. Smoking is prohibited in the apartment or anywhere on the premises.
Upon making a reservation, you will be notified of SF Shannon's House Rules. Creation of a reservation indicates acceptance of SF Shannon's policies.
LAUNDRY & HOUSEKEEPING
We provide weekly housekeeping. We will make the bed, swap out dirty towels and linens, dust and vacuum. Housekeepers do not wash dishes or take out trash.
For your laundry there is an app-operated laundromat in the upper lobby of the building. In the apartment you will find an iron and ironing board.
PARKING
Parking is free and on-street on the block in front of the apartment building. Please note that the Central West End is home to a number of bars and restaurants. While these establishments make the neighborhood great, they also attract many visitors. This can make parking a challenge, especially in the evenings and on weekends. You will almost always be able to find a parking spot, but it may not be right in front of the building.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
No need for a car while in residence! The Wilminette is in the heart of St. Louis' Central West End. It is easy to walk, bike, or take transit around St. Louis.
Walk to three supermarkets (Aldi, Straub's or Whole Foods). Enjoy magnificent historic architecture on the neighborhood's many nearby private streets. Walk to World Chess Hall of Fame, St. Louis Public Library, St. Louis Cathedral, Forest Park, Barnes Hospital, and Washington University Medical Center. Metrolink, the city's regional rail system, is within walking distance.
IS IT SAFE?
Since all SF Shannon apartments are in the historic core of St. Louis, we occasionally receive the question: “Is it safe?” This question is impossible to answer, because we typically know nothing about the person asking the question. Co-owner Karen lives in the Central West End, about a mile from the Wilminette. She and her her husband raised their sons in this neighborhood, and have always felt perfectly safe.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
The Wilminette has window-unit air conditioning. We pull the air conditioner out of the window by the middle of November to clean it and store it for the winter. We reinstall the air conditioner in April. If you feel like you need an air conditioner outside of this schedule, please discuss with us. We will do our best to accommodate.
In the winter months, heat is controlled by a central boiler that runs steam through the radiators. The boiler is scheduled to run 3 to 6 times a day, depending on the weather forecast.
WHY THAT NAME?
In the 1950s a woman named Wilminette was given the building. Yes, that is her real name, and yes, she received the building as a gift! "Wilminette" is not just a cool name, it is the perfect name for this charming apartment, which features one of the building's original fireplaces.
