Chopin

***Attention Guests: We are doing everything that we can to keep guest apartments clean and sanitized. Between each stay, protocols include cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces (light switches, doorknobs, cabinet handles, remotes, etc.). ***

The Chopin is a fully furnished studio apartment across the street from St. Louis University. Everything is included: Top-quality bed, all linens, fast WIFI, and a fully stocked kitchen.

Before your arrival, the Chopin will be stocked with welcome teas and treats, freshly roasted coffee, and light breakfast foods to start your stay. You'll also find a range of cleaning supplies that you're welcome to use and complimentary toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, Q-Tips, etc.). To keep our rates low, we don't replenish these items during your stay.

Free permit parking is available, first-come, first-served. But you may not need your car here. This is a transit- and bike-friendly location. Numerous restaurants and bars, coffee houses, and all the amenities of a great urban center are within walking distance. This is an ideal location for discovering the best of St. Louis!

The Chopin has a smart TV with local stations, and integrated streaming channels. Log in to any services to which you subscribe. There's a large gas range, frost-free fridge, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, dishes, cookware and utensils. Yes, there's a hair dryer, iron and ironing board.

Dynamic pricing ensures competitive rates. State lodging taxes apply to stays of less than 30 nights and City lodging taxes also apply to stays of less than 32 nights. SF Shannon offers weekly and monthly discounts, which are applied at the time of booking. Contact us if you would like your reservation divided into weekly or monthly payments.

We accept same-day reservations, if you contact us by 2 PM Central Time USA. Sorry, while we all love them, we do not allow pets at the Chopin. Smoking is prohibited.

Upon making a reservation, you will be asked to sign an electronic document to confirm your understanding of SF Shannon's payment and cancellation schedule and policies. Here is what it says.

Guest Access:
The apartment is all yours! There is a shared laundry room in the basement, and shared lobby and hallways with other guests and residents. Located on the third floor of a seven-story building; you may access the apartment by stairs or elevator.

Parking:
Parking is first-come, first-served with a permit that you'll receive upon arrival. Please note that demand is greater than supply. If permit parking is already full, you may park at any nearby metered space at no charge between the hours of 7 PM and 8 AM Monday through Saturday, and all day on Sunday.

Other Things to Note:
The Chopin has window-unit air conditioning. We pull the air conditioner out of the window by the middle of November to clean it and store it for the winter. We reinstall the air conditioner in April. If you feel like you need an air conditioner outside of this schedule, please discuss with us. We will do our best to accommodate.

In the winter months, the heat is controlled by a central boiler that runs steam through the radiators. The boiler is scheduled to run 3 to 6 times a day, depending on the weather forecast.

You may hear noise from the neighboring apartments, as the historic charm of the building does not include soundproof walls. We've had some guests complain about odors in the hallway, from residents who cook, smoke marijuana and/or cigarettes. We no longer rent to smokers, and want the building and grounds to be smoke-free! We've had this policy for eight years. However, when we instituted the policy, we did not force our residents who smoke to move. (Many residents who have lived in the building for decades.)

Since all of SF Shannon’s vacation rental apartments are in the historic core of St. Louis, we occasionally receive the question: “Is it safe?” This question is impossible to answer, because we typically know nothing about the person asking it. The co-owners live within walking distance of each SF Shannon vacation rental. Rachel, Karen and their spouses have raised their families in their respective neighborhoods, and have always felt perfectly safe.

If you're traveling with an infant, we have a pack-and-play available for a $10 one-time charge. If you'd like to use it, please let us know.

FAQ:
Distance to popular attractions:
Fox Theatre:  6 blocks with a 10-15 minute walk
America's Convention Center:  3 miles with a 15 minute drive

Why the name?
The apartment is named after Kate Chopin, an American author who moved into a house only three blocks directly west of the apartment building shortly after writing her best-known novel, The Awakening. Kate Chopin's former home, at 4232 McPherson Avenue, still stands. This was also Kate's last address. If you visit, be sure to admire the magnificent American Chestnut tree directly across the street from her home.
