Abbey

The Abbey is a fully-furnished studio apartment across the street from St. Louis University. Amazing discounts for longer stays, with weekly housekeeping included.

May 2024 Notice - Please Read: The building's passenger elevator is out of service. While we await its repair, we are operating the building's freight elevator from 6 AM to 6 PM daily. The Abbey is on the third floor. You may have to use the stairs. Do not reserve this apartment if you cannot use the stairs.

The Abbey features a top-quality Queen-sized bed, high-speed internet, and a fully-equipped kitchen. All linens are included. Before your arrival, the Abbey will be stocked with freshly roasted coffee, welcome treats and teas, and light breakfast foods to start your stay. Included are cleaning supplies that you are welcome to use and complimentary toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, Q-Tips, etc.). To keep rates low, we do not replenish these items during your stay.

We welcome same-day reservations if you contact us before 2 PM Central Time USA. Sorry, while we all love them, pets are not allowed at the Abbey. Smoking is prohibited.

Upon making a reservation, you will be notified of SF Shannon House Rules. Creation of a reservation indicates acceptance of SF Shannon policies.

Free permit parking is available, first-come, first-served. There are not enough permit parking spaces for all the residents and guests who need parking. You may park free at any of the numerous metered spaces nearby after 7 PM and before 8 AM Monday through Saturday, and all day on Sunday.

You do not need a car to live here! This is a "walk anywhere" and bike-friendly neighborhood, with easy access to transit. Within walking distance are supermarkets, numerous restaurants and bars and coffee houses.

The flat-screen TV has an antenna for local stations and Roku for streaming any services to which you subscribe. The full kitchen includes a large gas range, microwave, toaster, dishes, cookware, coffee maker, and everything you need for basic meal preparation. Yes, there is a hair dryer, iron, and ironing board.

Dynamic pricing ensures competitive rates. Weekly and monthly discounts are auto-applied at time of booking. You will always find best pricing by booking direct at SF Shannon.

If you plan to be in residence longer than a month, we accept monthly payments. There is no lease, but you must submit a rental application and pay a security deposit. Long-term guests must provide proof of their own renters insurance, or pay a nominal monthly fee for Tenant Liability Insurance. This insurance is underwritten by Great American Insurance Group and covers accidental or unintentional damage to the premises, but not to your personal possessions.

State lodging taxes apply to stays less than 30 nights. City lodging taxes apply to stays less than 32 nights.

PARKING
Parking is first-come, first-served with a permit that you will receive upon arrival. Demand for permit parking is greater than supply. If you cannot find a permit parking space, you may park at any of the abundant nearby metered spaces at no charge between the hours of 7 PM and 8 AM Monday through Saturday, and all day on Sunday.

IS IT SAFE?
Since all SF Shannon vacation rental apartments are in the historic core of St. Louis, we occasionally receive the question: Is it safe? This question is impossible to answer, because we know nothing about the person asking it. The co-owners live within walking distance of each SF Shannon vacation rental. Rachel, Karen and their spouses have raised their families in their respective neighborhoods, and have always felt perfectly safe.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
The apartment is all yours. There is a shared laundry room in the basement, and shared hallways with other guests and residents. The Abbey is on the third floor of a seven-story building. Access the apartment by stairs or elevator.

The Abbey has window-unit air conditioning. We pull the air conditioner out of the window by the middle of November to clean it and store it for the winter. We re-install the air conditioner in April. If you feel like you need an air conditioner outside of this schedule, please discuss with us. We will do our best to accommodate.

In the winter, heat is controlled by a central boiler that runs steam through the radiators. It is our goal to heat the Abbey in the 70-degree range. If you want more heat, the Abbey has an electric space heater that you are welcome to use.

The Abbey overlooks a busy arterial road. If you are a late or light sleeper, we have earplugs in the apartment. You may hear noise from neighboring apartments, as the historic charm of the building does not include soundproof walls. We ve had some guests complain about odors in the hallway, from residents who cook, smoke marijuana and/or cigarettes.

SF Shannon no longer rent to smokers, and wants the building to be smoke-free! SF Shannon has had this policy since 2010. However, when we instituted the policy, we did not force residents who smoke to move. (Many residents have lived in the building for decades.)

If you are traveling with an infant, we have a pack-and-play available for a $10 one-time charge. If you would like to use it, please let us know.

FAQ
How far is it to the Fox? The Abbey is about 0.6 miles from the Fox. You should be able to walk there in 10-15 minutes. We have had lots of actors working at the Fox stay with us!

How far is it to the Convention Center? This apartment is about 3 miles from the Center. It should be drivable in about 15 minutes, or you may take public transit, which would take about 20 minutes.

WHY THAT NAME?
Owner Rachel is an Anglophile at heart. She had just named another vacation rental apartment the because that apartment overlooks Westminster Avenue. This reminded Rachel of Westminster Abbey, and when she saw the view of the St. Louis Cathedral from the Abbey windows, well! There could be no other name. Plus, the name simply fits the space. You will see, if you choose to make the Abbey your St. Louis home.
