The Ullrich Suite is an unusual and beautifully furnished open floor plan, one-bedroom apartment in St. Louis' grand and historic Tower Grove East neighborhood, near Compton Heights. Located in a former storefront bakery, the apartment features a king-sized bed of the highest quality. (Please note that a large arts and crafts style bookcase separates the living room area from the sleeping area. In other words, the bedroom is not a room by itself with a door.) Included in the tariff is a rotating selection of light breakfast foods, unguarded welcome treats, a selection of teas, and freshly roasted coffee from one of the city's best roasters to start your stay. The spacious kitchen is fully equipped, with a large gas range, frost-free refrigerator, dishwasher and much more.

The apartment has dedicated internet with WIFI, and an antenna for local stations on the flat screen television. You are welcome to log into any streaming services to which you subscribe, through the Roku Box.

In warmer weather, sit outside and enjoy the fountain and garden in the Ullrich's gated courtyard. From this location it is easy to walk, bike or take public transit to the best of St. Louis. The Gateway Arch and Downtown St. Louis are less than four miles from the Ullrich Suite. The world-renowned Missouri Botanical Garden is two miles west--and a delightful walk, through some of the city's finest historic neighborhoods. St. Louis University Medical Center is within walking distance. The main campus of St. Louis University is two miles north. Washington University's main campus is about seven miles from the Ullrich Suite. Barnes Hospital & Washington University Medical Center is four miles from the apartment. Numerous restaurants and magnificent historic parks are within walking distance.

Rates are based on two people. Add $15/night for a third person using the sofa, for which we will provide full linen service. Parking is free and on-street in front of the Ullrich Suite. A two-night minimum is required on weekends.

We typically will confirm your reservation during our normal business hours (9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday Central Time USA). If you need immediate assistance, please callfor after-hours service.

We use dynamic pricing to ensure competitive rates. Sorry, while we all love them, we do not allow pets at the Ullrich Suite.

The Ullrich is on the ground floor, with one step leading to the apartment entrance.

Perfect stay for 2

Review by Stephanie P.
My best friend and I stayed here for several nights. The studio is beautiful, the bed is very comfortable, the kitchen is stocked with what you need for your stay and the gracious hosts even stock some light breakfast options, the upper apartment renters are quiet, and there is ample street parking. The area is a little noisy because of the university hospital nearby. I am sensitive to noise, but my friend had no complaints. I would absolutely stay again and have already recommended it to friends.

Our son stayed in the Ullrich room and we all loved it. Very beautiful, open and relaxing. We went down from our room for breakfast at his big dining room table.

Thank you for your feedback, Maureen! I'm sorry the ACs were loud. We're almost out of this AC season and looking into "quiet cool" units for next Spring. Wish us luck in finding the quietest window units (since they're are only choice for Herman's). If any guest recommends a particular brand or model, please let us know!

Perfect St. Louis Get Away Spot

Review by
My husband and I have stayed in several rental locations in the Shaw/Compton area. This one was the best we've found for two people. It was spotlessly clean and VERY thoughtfully appointed. I was concerned it might be noisy as it had businesses close by, but it was not. Coffee, tea, snacks and even cold beverages were waiting for us. A small courtyard with a fountain makes for a quiet place for morning coffee. Management was great about getting back to me when I had a question about the security system. The main rooms are spacious and well furnished. The bed was comfortable and the linens excellent. The bathroom is small but that was not an issue for us. We plan to stay here again.

This was a perfect location for our trip to St. Louis there were so many places within walking distance for coffee and food. We strolled through Tower Park,, had some nitro ice cream, and the best ribs ever!! The unit we stayed in was perfect and to make our stay the best we were supplied with fresh roasted coffee and local beer

Nice place, a little far from the places you might want to be

Review by James J.
Beautiful place to stay. Was a tiny bit hard to figure out where the front door was from where the Lyft driver dropped me off, but otherwise everything went very smoothly. The coffee shop a minute away was really nice, and the bar around the corner was cool too. The only real downside to this place is that it's far from the downtown area and there aren't many obvious public transit options, so you'd probably want to either be willing to get a lot of Lyft/Uber's or have your own car rental. The place had some nice extras like bagels, some local beers, and chocolate which were really appreciated. Well decorated and very clean.Would stay again!

The Ullrich Suite was as beautiful as pictured on the web site. The attention to detail was felt throughout the suite. Traveling by plane, it was very thoughtful of the owners to have coffee, filters, bagels, and a few other treats awaiting for us in the kitchen. The Suite was spotless and the bed was super comfortable.

Fantastic Stay

Review by
Everything in St. Louis exceeded our expectations and the Ullrich Suite kicked off the trend.Perfect for a couple - an amazing historic space that is perfectly-designed, comfortable, clean, great location - not only a beautiful historic neighborhood but great restaurants, parks and more within walking distance or a short drive (or bike ride as we did on a couple of occasions). Management were super responsive, proactive and as other reviewers have noted, little touches like beer, fruit, bagels in the fridge/freezer and coffee show the guest-centricity at every turn. We loved our stay and are already plotting our return - mainly in order to stay at the Ullrich again.

Perfect location, comfortable and clean

Review by David C.
This was our first stay at the Ullrich Suite and we hope to come back again. The apartment was perfect for two people. We especially liked being close to a coffee shop, next door to a quiet bar, and a very short walk to some of the best burnt ends and crispy smoked chicken wings place. It was a short drive to all the sites from the museum to the botanical center. It was also a short drive to "the hill" where there are some wonderful restaurants.

This is the second time we have rented this unit. It is always very clean and comfortable. We love the location because it close to all the areas we like to visit, Soulard, Lafayette Square, Cherokee and downtown. There is a nice coffee shop almost right across the street and a restaurant next door. We will be staying here again in the future. Management was great to deal with and prompt at returning correspondence.

The best getaway

Review by Carol W.
Our stay in the Ullrich Suite was delightful. We loved having the full kitchen to enjoy breakfast in our jammies. The fridge with eggs, bagels and fruit was the nicest touch. The locally roasted coffee beans with accompanying grinder put it over the top for us. It truly was the best “full kitchen” rental we’ve experienced, and considering that’s our standard travel choice (we prefer to eat in some meals when we travel), it says a lot. The bed was really comfortable, as was the TV area where we binged on Season 1 of “This is Us.” Our only slight tussle was the bathroom size. Again, all the special touches were there (the waffle weave towels were heavenly), it was a tight fit. We wondered if the small alcove right outside the bath couldn’t be utilized somehow for space to spread out toiletries, clothes and towels while getting ready. Privacy could be achieved by a heavy pull curtain that could be slid to the side when pamper time in the shower wasn’t happening. Just a thought. It wouldn’t keep us from coming back, that’s for sure. The thoughtful care and maintenance of this historic space was evident and appreciated. Well worth the investment for our long weekend getaway. Thank you!

Hi Carol ~ Using the alcove outside the bathroom to "increase" its space is a great idea! Thank you. We'll look into it. I'm delighted that you loved the Ullrich Suite. Thank you for choosing the apartment! ~ Karen

Perfect retreat for a short getaway

Review by Chrystal D.
My husband came to town for a short stay. However, I didn't want to leave! This apartment is so charming and comfortable. It was very clean and nicely remodeled. The bed was very comfortable as well. The homeowners left snacks and light breakfast foods to make our morning even more enjoyable. I wish we had more time to explore the quaint neighborhood. A visit to The Shaved Duck is a must! Just a short walk down the street to mouth watering BBQ!

Ulrich Summer 2017

Review by Stacie S.
My son and I stayed at the Ullrich for 19 days while he was involved in a production at the Muny. The location was very convenient for ease of getting to and from Forest Park. The convenience of Grand Ave and Compton made getting anywhere a breeze. I was surprised that there wasn't an actual bedroom, but rather the bed is separated from the living room by a large bookcase. The convenience of Crafted right next door was perfect for food and hanging out with friends. The noise from the bar was not a problem late at night. Amenities were wonderful and the staff was most accommodating when we had problems with the alarm; it was addressed quickly considering it was a weekend. The unit has a lovely courtyard and side lawn for the dog to run. Parking wasn't too bad, never had to park more than a block away. As mentioned in other reviews, the bathroom is small but manageable. My only complaint, and it is so minor, is that the kitchen trash can was so small and filled up too quickly. Overall, we were pleased with our stay and enjoyed our time at The Ullrich.

Special Celebration in St. Louis

Review by Joan J.
We loved the Ulrich which was a blend of the historic old & contemporary new. The rooms were spacious with the exception of the bathroom. Considering that it was a transformation of a bakery to a living space, it was very well done! The rental was so clean & tastefully decorated. We were surprised to find eggs & bagels in the fridge which allowed us to enjoy an "eat-in" breakfast. There is a restaurant immediately next door which makes it convenient if you desire not to venture far. We had reservations at a restaurant, the Element, that provides rooftop dining & an amazing view of the St. Louis skyline including the top of the Arch. Since this was a celebration dinner, we were not disappointed! The food was amazing!!The Element was within short driving distance from the Ulrich. The mgt. service for the Ulrich was most helpful when we phone with several questions. At first I was concerned about the rental price, however, with the treats, breakfast foods & ambiance & other amenities, it was indeed well worth it! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We have stayed in other SF Shannon properties before and are never disappointed. This one is no different. The location is unique and great, and the unit has an interesting history. It is well appointed with a nice living area and large kitchen. The building is older but well taken care of, and that's exactly what we like.. character with comfort. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Home away from home

Review by Tiffany L.
This review is very late but better late than never. The Ullrich Suite will forever be my favorite place to stay in St. Louis. It is pet friendly and truly felt like our home away from home. I loved the story behind the Ullrich Suite and the charm and character that came with it. The managers of the property were absolutely wonderful. They helped recommend places for us to visit and were accommodating of our odd check in time. 5/5 stars! I highly recommend you stay here when you are visiting St. Louis.

Ullrich suite - By far the best bang for your buck. Awesome area!

Review by don s.
As described in all other previous reviews, the place was perfect and clean, super clean. The bed is understated. It is top notch and my whole family slept very well. My little ones really enjoyed the snacks (sorry , all of them!). The bed is amazing and the suite is impeccable but the location is even better. 5-10 minutes from arch, 5 min from botanical gardens, from zoo, science center, city museum....the list goes on. The neighborhood is very safe. Also, you are right down the street from the shaved duck, which is a must visit. As well as 1.5 miles from sump coffee. We are going back to St louis in a few months and I will be staying here again. Cannot beat it for the money.

Historic Charm with Modern Conveniences

Review by Laura P.
My husband and I visited St. Louis for the weekend and enjoyed staying in the Ullrich Suite immensely! It was clean, the location was convenient, and the historic charm of the building was delightful. In addition, we were able to bring our dog, Molly, with us. There was a small courtyard right outside the front door for the convenience of walking her. The property owners thought of everything! My husband enjoyed the fresh coffee and I enjoyed the wide selection of delicious tea. One tiny suggestion I would offer is replacing or cleaning the tea pot - the inside was completely rusted so I ended up heating water in the microwave.

One Year Anniversary Stay

Review by BLAKE S.
Couldn't ask for nicer management of this property. Karen and Rachel are so great to work with. This property is perfect for a couple, traveling alone, or maybe 3 people. It's hands down 10x better (in my opinion) than staying in a hotel! We enjoyed the items they had stocked in the refrigerator and snacks throughout the place. Honestly, the only gripe I have, is that I'm a rather big guy and the bathroom is pretty small. Nothing too bad, just the vanity decreases the width of the room. Other than that, which that didn't bother me that bad, we ABSOLUTELY loved The Ullrich Suite! Thanks again Karen and Rachel for a awesome place and great communication between you and your guests. You guys rock!
5 out of 5 stars
Manager Response:
Wow! Thank you for your fantastic review, Blake. Yes, the bathroom in the Ullrich Suite is small. I guess this is because when it was built, the Ullrich Suite was the storefront for the Ullrich Family's bakery business. They probably never envisioned how the space would be used 100 years later! Just so you know, all of our unique apartments have larger bathrooms. I hope that we get to host you and your wife in one of those apartments soon. Thanks again! ~ Karen

We stayed at the Ullrich Suite in June 2016 and loved it! Great place full of history. We loved the marble on the walls and that it used to be a bakery. Accommodations were clean and a great size for a family of 2-3. No problem getting street parking. We stayed one night and chose to eat and have a drink next door, which was convenient. No noise coming from the restaurant/bar at all could be heard.

Great place. Centrally located. It was actually 2 blocks from my nephews home. Only small issue was that the place was very warm at night. We turned off the heat, but still felt heat coming through the radiators. It got to about 76 at night.

Manager Response:
We regret that you and your family were too warm, Ken! We wish that we had known while you were in residence, so that we could adjust the boiler that heats the building. (The thermostat in the Ullrich Suite controls only the apartment's central air condtioning.) We have our furnace man checking the boiler and its thermostats to make sure that no future guests are too warm. Thank you for alerting us to this issue!

The Ullrich Suite was fantastic!! Absolutely no complaints. It was located in a great area and parking was very easy. I had never been to St. Louis before and had some airline travel issues-Rachel was so accommodating and helpful. We arrived to the Suite in the early AM hours and were SO grateful for the snacks in the fridge 🙂 The weekend was great, and I have absolutely no complaints! The suite is large, clean, and very comfortable for two people; there is a full-sized kitchen that is well-equipped. The bed was very comfortable (king). The Suite is located close enough to all major tourist attractions that you can easily drive and park without any issues. I would absolutely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone traveling to St. Louis!

St. Louis Treasure

Review by
The ultimate compliment is that you return to a place you stayed before when you came to St. Louis. That was exactly what we did as we had enjoyed the Ullrich on an earlier visit and we couldn't wait to make it our destination to celebrate my husband's birthday weekend. The suite is absolutely charming and Rachel and Shannon consider every detail to make the stay special...breakfast items, snacks, kitchen utensils, coffee beans, teas, beverages. We loved the location and made frequent jaunts via Compton Avenue to downtown and midtown destinations. We kept saying, "I could just move in and live here, it is so comfortable and inviting!" It bears repeating that we will definitely book our stay here the next time we come to explore the venues of St. Louis. The Ullrich Suite is outstanding!

This is a fabulous place! My son and I stayed here while attending the 2015 wrestling NCAA at the Scottrade center which was about 3 miles from there. The rental was very clean, well appointed, area felt safe, and most of all the sister team were so very accommodating and pleasant to deal with. They were true professionals. Walking into the rental you can see how much they pay attention to detail. An added bonus is that they do leave some breakfast foods and snacks for you to enjoy during your stay. The kitchen is fully equipped so that if you want to stay in and cook you will not have an issue. I would recommend this rental highly. Being from NYC we thought that we would be walking around to different areas in St.Louis. We did walk to the Arch although I would not have done that again. Like I said the area that the rental is in felt safe, but going off to other streets did not have the same feel. We learned that in order to really enjoy St. Louis you need to rent a car. Public transportation was recommended to us, but we felt more comfortable renting a car. Cab rides will become to costly. That is my only regret is that we didn't get a rental car from the beginning of the trip. We ate at some amazing places! The Shaved Duck, Dressels Public House, Blues City Deli, and The Fountain on Locust were great finds. St Louis is a great city with many different areas to explore. Definitely do your research and rent a car! I look forward to visiting St Louis again and staying here or one of the other rentals that these sisters maintain.
