Targee
The Targee is a fully furnished studio apartment across the street from St. Louis University. Everything is included! Top-quality Queen-sized bed, all linens, dedicated high-speed internet, and fully stocked kitchen. The Targee is available for an all-inclusive $1200/month, if you are willing to fill out a rental agreement and pay a fully refundable deposit. Contact us for more details.
Before your arrival, the Targee will be stocked with welcome teas and treats, freshly roasted coffee, and light breakfast foods to start your stay. You'll also find a range of cleaning supplies and complimentary toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, Q-Tips, etc.). To keep our rates low, we do not replenish these items during your stay.
The Targee has high-speed dedicated internet service with modem and router. The smart TV has an antenna for local stations. The full kitchen includes a large gas range, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, dishes, cookware and utensils. Yes, there's a hair dryer, iron and ironing board. All linens are included.
The Targee is available for stays of 28 days or longer. State lodging taxes apply to stays less than 30 nights. City lodging taxes apply to stays less than 32 nights.
GUEST ACCESS
The apartment is all yours! There is a shared laundry room in the basement, and shared lobby and hallways with other guests and residents. Located on the third floor of a seven-story building; access the apartment by stairs or elevator.
PARKING
Parking is first-come, first-served with a permit that you'll receive upon arrival. Please note that demand is greater than supply. If permit parking is already full, you may park at any nearby metered space at no charge between the hours of 7 PM and 8 AM Monday through Saturday, and all day on Sunday.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
The Targee has window-unit air conditioning. We pull the air conditioner out of the window by the middle of November to clean it and store it for the winter. We reinstall the air conditioner in April. If you feel like you need an air conditioner outside of this schedule, please discuss with us. We will do our best to accommodate.
In the winter months, the heat is controlled by a central boiler that runs steam through the radiators. The boiler is scheduled to run 3 to 6 times a day, depending on the weather.
You may hear noise from the neighboring apartments, as the historic charm of the building does not include soundproof walls. We've had some guests complain about odors in the hallway, from residents who cook, smoke marijuana and/or cigarettes. We no longer rent to smokers, and want the building and grounds to be smoke-free! We've had this policy since 2009. However, when we instituted the policy, we did not force our residents who smoke to move. (Many residents who have lived in the building for decades.)
IS IT SAFE?
Since all of SF Shannon’s vacation rental apartments are in the historic core of St. Louis, we occasionally receive the question: “Is it safe?” This question is impossible to answer, because we typically know nothing about the person asking it. The co-owners live within walking distance of each SF Shannon vacation rental. Rachel, Karen and their spouses have raised their families in their respective neighborhoods, and have always felt perfectly safe.
Why that name?
The Targee is named in honor of Thomas Targee, a volunteer fireman who saved St. Louis from the Great Fire of 1849.
